Mexico’s wheat production estimates improve

With favorable weather boosting yields, Mexico is now expected to produce 3.275 million tonnes of wheat in 2021-22, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Exports are estimated at 850,000 tonnes on higher-than-expected durum wheat production that is mainly destined for export markets. Ending stocks are estimated at 387,000 tonnes.

Corn production was estimated downward 3% for 2021-22 to 27.120 million tonnes, the USDA said, reflecting a lower harvest area. Exports were revised downward to 500,000 tonnes to reflect the lower-than-expected domestic production.

Sorghum production was adjusted upward based on higher harvested area and a larger than expected planted area. The USDA said production is now estimated at 4.9 million tonnes.
