MARS lowered yield forecasts for wheat, corn and rapeseed for the EU

In the June report, MARS experts lowered their yield forecasts for almost all EU crops, although they still remain at the level of the 5-year average.

Yield estimates have been lowered due to excessive rainfall in the Benelux countries, western Germany, northeastern France and northern Italy, which negatively affected plant development.

In Bulgaria, the harvest prospects are good, as the amount of precipitation was within normal limits, which contributed to the water supply of winter and spring crops. Despite high temperatures in June, winter crop yields are quite high. Spring crops are developing very well, so yields may exceed the average.

In the main northern agricultural regions, biomass accumulation and canopy expansion of grain corn and sunflower are at or above average levels. In the southeast, moisture deficit slows down the growth of crops with a slight deepening of the roots.

MARS experts have lowered their forecast of soft wheat yields in the EU from 5.92 to 5.86 t/ha, which would correspond to the 5-year average, compared to the May estimates. The corn yield forecast has been lowered from 7.59 to 7.55 t/ha, which is 3% higher than the 5-year average (7.35 t/ha). The forecast for rapeseed yield has been lowered from 3.21 to 3.16 t/ha, while the 5-year average is 3.17 t/ha. At the same time, the forecast for barley yields in the EU has been increased from 5.13 to 5.14 t/ha, which is 4% higher than the 5-year average (4.93 t/ha).
