In the September review, MARS analysts revised the forecast of corn yields in the EU in 2023/24 MY downward by 3% per month to 7.26 t/ha, which is also 3% lower than the average result of the last 5 years.

It is noted that the drought, which persists in Romania and has spread to Bulgaria, worsens the condition of grain crops in these countries. Also, the heat is damaging corn crops in some regions of France and Italy.

Meanwhile, in Greece, severe floods led to the complete loss of crops in the Thessaly region, which accounts for 22% of national corn production.

As for other crops, the EU yield forecast was also revised for spring barley – from 3.6 t/ha to 3.59 t/ha (-14% compared to the average level of the last 5 years), sunflower – from 2.18 to 2.2 t/ha (-1%) and soybeans – from 2.82 to 2.83 t/ha (+3%).
