Lithuania imposes a ban on imports of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus

Since the beginning of this week, Lithuania has banned the import of agricultural products and feed from Russia and Belarus according to a list compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture and approved by the government, LRT reports.

The list includes products of 24 groups: live animals, meat and offal, fish, milk and its products, eggs, natural honey, products of non-animal origin, plants, vegetables, fruits, coffee and spices, grain, cereals, oil, beverages, tobacco and other products. Various plant products from Russia and Belarus are prohibited from being imported into Lithuania.

Starting June 3, Lithuania will no longer allow the import of prepared foods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. These include a variety of products made from meat, fish, crustaceans, mollusks or other aquatic invertebrates or insects, as well as sugar and sugar confectionery, cocoa and cocoa products, cereal products, flour, starch or milk, vegetables, fruits, nut products or other parts of plants, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages and vinegar, residues and waste from the food industry, and prepared animal feed.

“However, taking into account a detailed analysis of import data from Russia and Belarus and possible serious losses for processors, as well as comments received during public consultations with the public, agricultural products that do not have alternative sources of imports (some mushrooms, berries, plant weaving materials) are not included in the list,” the publication writes.
