Lithuania imported grain from Russia in February after a six-month pause

Lithuania purchased 12.2 thousand tons of grain from Russia for €1.95 million in February 2024 after a six-month pause. This is reported by the Russian edition of Kommersant, citing data from the European Statistical Service.

Latvia also increased grain imports from Russia in February, purchasing 58.8 thousand tons of grain for 10 million euros. In February, the EU countries purchased a total of 92.6 thousand tons of Russian grain worth 16.9 million euros.

Lithuania stopped importing Russian grain in May 2023. The last delivery was made in July of the same year.

• On March 14, the Seimas of Lithuania adopted a resolution calling for a ban on grain imports from Russia and Belarus at the European level.
• On March 15, Lithuania introduced stricter controls over grain imported from Russia and other high-risk countries.
