Latvia. Capacity for the transshipment of Ukrainian grain is being added to the port of Riga
In the port of Riga (Latvia), another grain storage facility will be put into operation.
The stevedore of the Port of Riga — WT Terminal — invested 2.6 million euros in the construction of a hangar for the storage and processing of grain cargoes. According to the company, it will increase the capacity of the terminal for storing grain and its products by 60%.
“Today, grain cargoes are in great demand, and Latvia has competences in their processing. Starting from June, shipments from Russia and Belarus stopped, and this is a challenge for us, but we found Ukrainian partners, which compensated for part of the former volumes,” said Andis Bunkshis, a member of the board of WT Terminal.
Also, in his opinion, no one today is able to forecast activities for the coming years, but “supply chains will find a way to adapt to the current order.”
As previously reported, Latvia offered Ukraine assistance with the export of grain through its ports.
