Kazakhstan will increase sunflower crops
According to the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Erbol Karashukeyev, according to the data of regional akimats, the forecast structure of sown areas in 2023 has been formed.
Thus, the total sown area this year will amount to 23.4 mln hectares, which is 68.6 thou hectares more than in 2022. The planted areas of cereals and legumes are expected to increase by 117 thou hectares, fodder crops by 36.5 thou hectares and sugar beet by 6.7 thou hectares,” he said.
Due to changes in market conditions, a slight reduction in the area under some oilseeds, such as safflower, soybeans and mustard, is expected, the minister added.
“At the same time, the area under such a socially important crop as sunflower is planned to increase by 30.8 thousand hectares. The area under vegetable and melon crops and potatoes is planned to increase by 11.1 thousand hectares. As for moisture-intensive crops, this year, compared to last year, the area under cotton is expected to decrease by 14.8 thou hectares, which will amount to 111.4 thou hectares,” he said.
At the same time, despite the government’s instruction to reduce the area of water-intensive crops, there is an increase in the area of rice compared to last year by 7.6 thou hectares (2023 – 95.4 thou hectares), Karashukeyev noted.
In general, according to him, the planned areas for grains, vegetables, and potatoes will fully meet the needs of the domestic market.
