Kazakhstan may expand soybean crops
In Kazakhstan, farmers are recommended to increase the area of fodder crops, for which domestic demand is forecast, and soybeans, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture forecasts “an increase in durum wheat production in Russia and Turkey, as well as lineseed in Russia, which may compete with Kazakhstani producers (…) It is recommended to pay attention to fodder crops for which there will be domestic demand, as well as to increase the area planted with soybeans. For this crop in 2023 there was a critical deficit and record imports”, – stated in the message from the round table on ‘Preparation for spring field work under the risk of moisture deficit’ Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
According to the information, agrarians were offered to sow grasses, for which in 2024 “stable demand is expected”. Also, crop growers were recommended to carry out obligatory moisture closure in the fields, and livestock breeders – to prepare a stock of fodder.
Speakers at the roundtable also spoke about the high risks of reduced summer precipitation in Kazakhstan, expectations of shifts in soil types from south to north and the need to develop strategies for adaptation to climate change, including the choice of crops for sowing, the treatment of fields with a slope across the direction of the slope.
As it turned out, only four oblasts of Kazakhstan are “shipping fertilizers well”, although fertilizer producers have gone to meet the agrarians’ needs and started shipping goods in installments until September.
