Kazakhstan imposes a ban on sugar exports
The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan proposes to impose a ban on sugar exports by the end of summer. The measure is aimed at meeting domestic demand, Orda.kz reports.
“To introduce a ban on the export of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose by August 31, 2024,” the document says. Exports will be banned even to the EAEU countries.
As stated in the explanation to the order, the domestic market is only 13% supplied with sugar. The demand is covered by imports, mainly from Russia (57%) and Belarus (1.5%).
Russia has also recently introduced a temporary ban on sugar exports. The EAEU countries will not be affected by the restrictions. Moreover, Russia has increased the quota for the supply of the product to Kazakhstan.
