On January 24, the Order of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan establishing the export duty on sunflower seeds was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The document will enter into force in 10 days.

The list of goods subject to export duties now includes sunflower seeds, crushed or uncrushed (EurAsEC Commodity Nomenclature for Foreign Economic Activity code 1206 00). The duty rate has been approved at 20%, but not less than EUR 100 per ton, and will be in effect permanently.

Restrictions on the export of raw materials are adopted in order to load local oil-extraction plants and increase exports of processed products. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade Serik Zhumangarin said that the export duty would be in effect at the first stage. Next, an export quota is expected to be introduced, with the adoption of which only supplies in excess of the established volume will be subject to duty. The size of the quota is still being discussed.
