Japan will help farmers of Kharkiv region with sunflower and corn seeds
The Government of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide farmers of Kharkiv region with sunflower and corn seeds for the spring sowing season. The project was presented today at a meeting with Mykola Solskyi, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The event was equally attended by the representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The Government of Japan procured seeds worth more than 1 million US dollars. The seeds have already been delivered to Ukrainian warehouses and Kharkiv farmers will be able to apply for them through the State Agrarian Register. Mykola Solskyi expressed his gratitude to the Japanese side for the comprehensive support of Ukrainian agricultural sector. In addition, the Minister agreed with the Japanese side to create an educational exchange program for Ukrainian students of Kharkiv National Agrarian University named after V.V. Dokuchayev.
“Together with our Japanese partners and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, we were able to help small farmers prepare for the spring sowing campaign,” said Pierre Vauthier, FAO Ukraine Designated Responsible Officer. “We will continue to help Ukrainian farmers with critical resources.”

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a Japanese government organization that provides technical assistance, grants and low-interest loans to foreign governments. The main programs of JICA are technical assistance programs and projects to strengthen the capacity and institutional development of states.

Currently, JICA is focusing its efforts on the restoration of Ukraine, particularly in the agricultural sector.
