It takes three months to export last year’s harvest from Ukraine

Ukraine needs to export grain and oilseeds harvested in 2022 before the start of the new season.

This was stated by Mykola Solskyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, in an interview with Niezalezna.pl.

“We have a lot to export from last year’s harvest – corn, wheat, sunflower oil, sunflower meal, soybeans. It takes about 3 months to export these products, depending on the pace. In June-July, we will start harvesting winter crops – barley and wheat – and will need to export the new crop,” he explained.

Mr. Solsky said that according to the forecasts, this year’s export potential of the agricultural sector in monetary terms can remain at the level of the previous year, but it depends on prices.

“And if we look at the tonnage, the figures will naturally be lower. Because many Ukrainian farmers are increasing their oilseeds – sunflower and soybeans – and decreasing their wheat and corn,” he predicts.

According to the minister, exports are hampered by Russia’s blocking of ship inspections in the Bosphorus. As a result, only 2-3 ships are inspected per day.

“This is very little. In fact, several times more ships with Ukrainian grain can be sent every day. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the number of inspections in the Bosporus, and then we will be able to send more ships,” he added.
