Iran intends to return about 3 thousand tons of feed corn purchased in Russia due to its inadequate quality. This was stated by the head of the veterinary service of Mazandaran province, Hamza Akapour Kazemi.

According to the official, who was quoted by Tasnim news agency, after inspecting the ship carrying the Russian corn, “the goods were found to be non-compliant with the required organoleptic characteristics due to mold, high humidity and unpleasant odor.”

In this regard, the local authorities, after consultations, “decided to return the goods back to the country of origin”.

As noted, on February 13, the head of the Iranian Grain Union, Kaveh Zargaran, said that the country annually imports 2.5 to 3 million tons of grain from Russia. Earlier, the Russian Union of Grain Exporters noted that Iran was among the top 5 grain importers from Russia this season.

According to the preliminary data, the total volume of Russian grain exports to this destination in the first seven months (July-January) of 2023/24 MY amounted to 38.5 mln tonnes, up 23% compared to the same period last season.
