Iran ranked 7th in the world in terms of grain reserves

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced Iran’s production of 21 million tons of grain for 2023 and noted that the country’s grain reserves exceed those of all but six other countries in the world, Trend reports.

In its first report in the Crop and Food Security Outlook series for 2024, FAO reported an increase in Iran’s grain production by about 2 percent compared to the previous year. Grain production in this Iran increased by 400 thousand tons to reach a mark of 21.1 million tons.

According to the report, Iran’s wheat production in 2023 increased by 500 thousand tons or 4 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 13.5 million tons, while the world’s total wheat production decreased by 2 percent to 788 million tons. FAO forecasts that Iran’s wheat production will reach 13 million tons in 2024.

The report also mentions an increase in Iran’s grain reserves by 100,000 tons, noting that the country’s grain reserves reached 12.1 million tons by the end of 2023.

With this amount of grain reserves, Iran ranks seventh in the world. China with 400 million tons of grain ranks first, followed by India (65 million tons), the US (53 million tons), the EU (45 million tons), Russia (40 million tons) and Turkey (12.8 million tons).
