Indonesia will increase wheat imports this year
According to Francis Velirang, Chairman of the Indonesian Flour Producers Association, Indonesia will increase wheat imports this year, exceeding last year’s figure of 10.87 million tons. The increase in imports is due to the need to meet the growing demand for food and poultry feed.
Indonesia is the third largest importer of wheat in the world. Its dependence on wheat from Australia, Canada, the United States and the Black Sea region is critical. According to the US Department of Agriculture, Indonesia’s feed wheat consumption is expected to rise to 1.2 million tons this year, up from 1.1 million tons last year.
