The Indonesian government has decided to halt corn imports in April to ensure adequate supply, price stability and optimal production. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the country’s total corn production in the first four months of this year may reach 5.34 million tons, 500,000 tons more than last year.

Indonesia’s trade ministry reports that domestic corn purchases will be prioritized if the quality of the grain meets the requirements needed for animal feed production. However, government members have not announced the duration of the import halt.

It is worth noting that Bulog has been allocated a quota of 500,000 tons of feed corn imported into the country this year. In addition, a quota of another 500,000 tons has been allocated for the last three months of 2023, and part of this volume should arrive in Indonesia this year.
