India cuts castor oil exports in 2022
Indian traders sold the least castor oil to foreign markets over the past three years, according to analysts from the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA).
Thus, at the end of 2022, the export of the product amounted to over 586 thousand tons, which is approximately 103 thousand tons lower than the level of 2021 and 72 thousand tons less than in 2020.
In addition, in December 2022, according to preliminary SEA data, the sale of Indian castor oil in all directions amounted to 41.8 thousand tons, in November – almost 47 thousand tons, in October – 39.8 thousand tons, in September – 34 thousand tons.
It is noteworthy that last year, exports were still higher than in 2019, when the figures were fixed at the level of 546.9 thousand tons.
Castor oil is one of the most valuable vegetable oils, it is extracted from the seeds of the castor bean, an evergreen shrub that grows in tropical and subtropical zones. Today, this oil is included in many cosmetic products. The main world producers of castor oil are India, China and Brazil.
