Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, spoke about the third sowing campaign during the war, the situation with agricultural land mines and the reservation of farmers on the air of the all-Ukrainian marathon “Yedyni Novyny” (United News).

He emphasized that farmers are preparing to sow the areas that could not be sold for winter crops in the spring, including due to unfavorable weather conditions.

“We are currently seeing a decline in international prices for mineral fertilizers. This is a factor that should also help us catch up with the areas that were not sown in the fall. We have to reach at least the areas that were sown in 2022,” said Taras Vysotskyi.

As for the mined areas, he said, the situation in Kharkiv and Kherson regions remains difficult. More than 1 million hectares of land are mined there.

“They can be divided into two types. The first one is where the front line was, which is 80%-90% of the mined areas. The second is in the rear, where the percentage is smaller. As for the latter, there is a plan to sow them in time. Unfortunately, the 200-300 thousand hectares that were on the contact line will not be put into cultivation this year,” said Taras Vysotskyi.

In addition, the First Deputy Minister emphasized that one of the key tasks of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is to develop a mechanism for booking agricultural workers.

“We understand that in most cases, professional agricultural workers are also very valuable for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We will need to find a difficult, but still compromise between continuing the activities of farmers and supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he summarized.
