In the 2022/2023 season, the EU increased imports of rapeseed and sunseed
In the season 2022/2023, which ended June 30, the EU countries increased imports of rapeseed and sunseed, reducing imports of soybeans. This is reported by the European Commission.
The volume of soybean imports fell to 13.0 thousand tons, down 10% compared to the season 2021/2022. Rapeseed imports rose 33% to 7.3 million tons, sunseed to 2.2 million tons, more than double the 2021/2022 season.
Soybean shipments were mostly to the Netherlands (3.6 million tons), Spain (3.2 million tons), Germany (2.1 million tons), and Italy (1.7 million tons). The largest rapeseed importers among the EU countries were Belgium (2.2 million tons), the Netherlands (1.2 million tons), Germany (1.1 million tons), and France (1.1 million tons). Sunseed was mainly imported to Bulgaria (0.8 million tons), Romania (0.5 million tons) and Hungary (0.3 million tons).
The largest suppliers of soybeans to the EU last season were Brazil – 5.3 million tons (8.4 million tons in the season 2021/2022), the United States – 5.1 million tons (4.3 million tons) and Ukraine (0.4 million tons). Ukraine was also one of the main suppliers of sunflower seed with 1.8 (0.4 mln t) and rapeseed with 3.0 mln t (1.7 mln t).
