Imports don’t help lower local corn prices in Indonesia

To stabilize local corn prices for poultry farmers, Indonesia imported 171,000 tons of feed corn in November-December. However, according to one corn producer, Din Novel, the imports have not resulted in lower prices.

“Current prices are unexpected, reaching as high as $0.53/kg in some areas. Despite the expected decline in prices in March-May this year due to increased supply, they will rise again,” he said.

He emphasized the need for a policy change, focusing on developing more land to increase domestic farming rather than relying solely on imports.
