IGC expects lower sunseed harvest in Ukraine in 2024/25 MY
The global sunseed production in the season-2024/25 may reach about 58.5 mln tons, according to the International Grains Council (IGC). According to experts, the harvest of the oilseed will increase by 1% to 57.9 mln tons.
The growth, according to experts, will be driven by an increase in crop yields, despite a decline in global acreage by about 2% amid low export prices for sunseed.
Russia is expected to harvest the largest amount of seeds in the next marketing year – 17.4 mln tonnes, compared to 17.6 mln tonnes in 2023/24 MY.
Ukraine will follow with 16.2 mln tonnes (16.5 mln tonnes in 2023/24 MY). The EU countries round out the top three with 10.5 million tons (10.2 million tons).
According to IGC estimates, the largest producers will also include Argentina (4.4 mln tonnes in 2024/25 MY; 4 mln tonnes in 2023/24 MY), China (2.3 mln tonnes; 2.3 mln tonnes), Turkey (1.8 mln tonnes; 1.6 mln tonnes), Kazakhstan (1.3 mln tonnes; 1.2 mln tonnes) and the USA (1.1 mln tonnes; 1 mln tonnes).
