IGC expects a decline in the global sunseed crop

The global sunseed production in the season-2024/25 may reach about 57.1 mln tonnes against 57.4 mln tonnes a year earlier, according to the forecast of the International Grains Council (IGC) analysts. In April, they estimated the new oilseed harvest at 58.1 mln tons.

“The reason for the decline is that above-average yields will only partially compensate for the reduction in acreage [under the crop],” the experts said.

They expect the gross harvest of the oilseed in Russia in 2024/25 MY to drop to 17.2 mln tonnes (17.6 mln tonnes in 2023/24 MY), in Ukraine to 16.2 mln tonnes (16.5 mln tonnes), in Argentina to 3.9 mln tonnes (4 mln tonnes), in China to 1.6 mln tonnes (1.7 mln tonnes), and in the US to 0.7 mln tonnes (1 mln tonnes).

At the same time, according to preliminary estimates, the sunseed harvest will increase in the EU – to 10.7 mln tonnes (10.2 mln tons); Turkey – to 1.8 mln tonnes (1.6 mln tons); Kazakhstan – to 1.3 mln tonnes (1.2 mln tons).
