Hungary is dissatisfied with the government’s ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products. This will undermine efforts to curb inflation and create a shortage in the market. This is stated by Bloomberg.

Zsófia Potsá, Secretary General of the Hungarian Grain Association, says Hungary needs to import about 700,000 tons of feed corn after last year’s poor harvest, and Ukraine will be the cheapest supplier.

“Our members are desperate and do not support any import bans, in fact, we need imports,” she emphasized.

The government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, along with Poland and Slovakia, has imposed a ban on Ukrainian grain and certain agricultural products until the end of June. While these EU countries argue that such shipments could harm domestic producers, Potsá said that blocking these flows would maintain pressure on food prices in Hungary, where inflation is above 25%.
