Hungarian carriers will not block the border for truck traffic at the Záhony-Chop checkpoint on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, on the air of the United News telethon.

“We were informed (in Hungary – ed.) that a demonstration may begin on December 11 at about 11:00 a.m. in this direction, but they said that there would be no blocking of truck traffic,” said Andriy Demchenko.

According to the SBGS spokesperson, as in the case of Slovakia, this is also an intensive direction for trucks to cross the border. On Sunday morning, December 10, about 1,000 vehicles were waiting at the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, but the traffic continues,” Demchenko said.

Also, according to the Transcarpathian customs office, the demonstration of Hungarian carriers on the border with Ukraine, which is scheduled to begin on December 11, will not be accompanied by blocking of truck traffic at the Záhony-Tisa checkpoint.

This became known during a working meeting of Ukrainian customs officers with their Hungarian counterparts. “We will inform you about the real situation on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border as soon as the protest starts,” the customs office said.

What is known about the plans to block the Hungarian-Ukrainian border

The Hungarian Union of Carriers (MKFE) said that on December 11, it will start a protest at the Záhony-Chop checkpoint, demanding the abolition of the liberalization of transportation for the Ukrainian side. This is stated in the MKFE statement.

The union claims that in this way they want to draw the attention of the European Commission to the “serious consequences” of the agreement between the EU, Ukraine and Moldova.

“The road carriers demand an immediate revision of the agreement and the restoration of license quotas for Ukrainian-Hungarian transportation, as well as effective and intensive official control over Ukrainian carriers,” the statement said.
