Houthis attack a U.S. bulk carrier carrying grain to Yemen

On February 19, Houthis in the Red Sea fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles at the USS Sea Champion, a Greek-flagged bulk carrier owned by the United States.

This was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

The ship was heading to the port of Aden in Yemen with a cargo of grain on board for the country’s residents.

One of the missiles detonated near the bulk carrier, causing minor damage.

The crew of the ship continued on its way to its final destination.

CENTCOM’s press service said that nearly 80% of Yemen’s population is in need of humanitarian assistance. “We are committed to countering the Houthis’ malicious actions that directly jeopardize food and humanitarian aid imports to Yemen,” the US military said.
