Markiyan Dmytrasevych, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, met with Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP). During the meeting, they discussed the Grain from Ukraine program.

It is noted that the parties discussed the shipment of 25 thousand tons of Ukrainian humanitarian grain to Nigeria and 32 thousand tons to Sudan, as well as the possibility of sending humanitarian cargo to Somalia.

In addition, Dmytrasevych and Skau discussed the possible expansion of the geography and range of supplies under the Grain from Ukraine initiative.

Grain from Ukraine: the essence of the program

The Grain from Ukraine program was launched in November 2022. Its essence is the direct purchase of agricultural products from Ukrainian producers to prevent hunger in Africa and Asia.

According to the program, Ukraine sends a portion of its wheat harvested to the countries where hunger is a problem. Third countries can also make financial contributions to the provision of grain.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the program is implemented in close partnership with the UN World Food Program. As of June 2023, more than 170 thousand tons of grain have been delivered to Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Yemen under Grain from Ukraine.
