The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has made a preliminary forecast of grain yields. This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky.

“Obviously, the harvest will be lower than last year. Winter wheat – 4 KMT/ha (last year it was 4,5 KMT/ha ), winter rye – 3,3 KMT/ha (it was 3,5 KMT/ha ), winter barley – 3,5 KMT/ha (it was 4,2 KMT/ha ). We expect that this year’s yield will be 10-15% lower“.

According to Taras Vysotsky, winter crops were affected by weather factors, because they were laid on the full technology in the fall, fertilization was carried out. In spring crops, farmers used less intensive cultivation technology.

The First Deputy Minister adds that farmers do not save on innovative technologies.

“Farmers can change crops to unpretentious ones (yes, the amount of millet and buckwheat has increased) or reduce the share of innovative crops. At the same time, it should be understood that the purpose of innovative technologies is to reduce the unit cost of the product. There may be more investment per hectare, but they then give a lower cost of goods. That is, in conditions of temporarily limited financial resources, it is better to sow less, but do not save on technology. After all, other fixed administrative costs remain,” he said.
