Prices for grain crops in Poland do not differ too much from the European market, so there are no objective reasons for farmers to protest over cheap Ukrainian grain.

This opinion was expressed by Oleg Nivievsky, Vice President for Economic Education at the Kyiv School of Economics, on Telegram.

He believes that the scandal with the import/transit of Ukrainian grain to Poland is an internal issue.

“This is more of a political story and the use of the grain import factor in the internal political struggle and obtaining additional funds from the EC. After all, prices in Poland continue to be at market levels, there are no extraordinary movements. Of course, now all prices are falling – this is a global trend,” said Oleg Nivievskyi.

The expert explains that ordinary farmers do not really understand how prices are formed.

“They see that the price is falling, that it is bad for them, and immediately look for the reason. And the “reason” is easy to find, it’s right next door – Ukrainian grain and lots of it, why think about global markets, etc. It is easy for politicians to put such a story in people’s ears,” he concludes.
