Grain exports from Russia decreased by almost 30%

In December, Russia’s grain exports fell by almost 30% compared to last year.

As of December 25, Russia has shipped 3.1 million tons of grain for export since the beginning of the month. This is 27.5% less than in the same period last year, according to Russian media, citing the Russian Grain Union.

Wheat accounted for the bulk of exports (2.605 million tons). Shipments of this grain decreased by 31% compared to last year. Barley exports also decreased by 7.5% (to 150 thousand tons).

Grain was exported through 20 ports compared to 24 last year. At the same time, shipments in the Black Sea ports decreased significantly. For example, shipments through the port of Novorossiysk decreased by 16%, while transit more than halved. In Azov, the decline was 22%, in Rostov-on-Don – 18%, and in Taman – 42%.

In total, in December, Russians plan to ship about 3.85 million tons of major grain crops, which is 26% less than last year, when the figure was 5.2 million tons.
