The largest opposition force in Germany, the Christian Democratic Union, is initiating a vote in the Bundestag on a resolution calling for a ban on imports of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus. According to n-tv.

The Christian Democratic Union believes that the high duties imposed by the European Union on Russian grain are not enough and that a ban on the import of all agricultural products is needed.

“We are not dependent on Russian grain in Germany and Europe,” said Albert Stegemann, spokesman for the party’s parliamentary group on agricultural policy.

According to him, Vladimir Putin is financing his military economy with agricultural exports.

“This must be prevented. High duties on Russian grain are not enough,” he emphasized.

In the proposed resolution of the Bundestag, the CDU advocates a “complete ban on the import of all agricultural goods and food from Russia and Belarus.”

As a reminder, on March 22, the European Commission announced a proposal to increase tariffs on imports of grains and oilseeds and their processed products from Russia and Belarus.

Ukraine has long called on the EU to completely ban Russian agricultural imports. During the EU leaders’ summit on March 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it “unfair ” that Russian food products are being shipped to Europe while Ukrainian grain is being thrown onto asphalt or railroad tracks.
