Georgia’s wheat reserves are almost exhausted, and in the coming days mills will stop their work due to active import of flour.

This was reported by the head of the Association of Grain and Flour Producers of Georgia Levan Silagava.

“Flour replacing wheat is actively imported into the country. Wheat reserves are exhausted and mills will stop working within a few days,” Silagava said.

He noted that according to Georgian law, the import tax on flour is zero, while the tax on wheat is floating and currently stands at $120 per ton. The UN recommends keeping two months of wheat stocks.
