France cuts wheat crop estimate, raises maize
France’s farm ministry on Tuesday lowered its estimate of the country’s 2023 soft wheat production to 35.14 million metric tons from 35.59 million projected last month, though that was still 4.3% above last year’s volume.
For grain maize, the ministry anticipated output, excluding crop grown for seeds, at 11.22 million metric tons, up from 10.89 million projected in August and now 5.3% higher than the 2022 volume.
In a first production forecast for the sugar beet harvest, the ministry pegged 2023 output at 31.21 million tons, down 0.9% compared with 2022 production of 31.50 million.
