Exports of Ukrainian sunflower seeds to the EU decreased by more than 10 times
In the period from July 2023 to February 2024, the EU countries imported only 391.2 thsd tonnes of sunflower seeds, which is 78% lower than the level in the same period last season (1.8 mln tonnes). Such data were published by the European Commission analysts in their new report.
They note that the decrease in supplies is due to a significant decline in exports of Ukrainian sunseed – from 1.56 mln tons to 115 thsd tonnes.
At the same time, according to the information, the EC imports of oilseeds from Moldova, on the contrary, increased by almost 52%, from 140 thousand tons to more than 212.1 thousand tons.
The EU also received small batches from China (24.7 thsd tonnes vs. 21.9 thsd tonnes in July 2022-February 2023), Turkey (17.3 thsd tonnes vs. 21 thsd tonnes) and the USA (6 2 thsd tonnes vs. 8 thsd tonnes).
In general, according to the EC estimates, during the period under review, the countries of the bloc reduced the import of oilseeds by 23% to just over 10.6 mln tonnes. In particular, the imports of soybeans dropped by 3% to 6.95 mln tons, and rapeseed by 32% to 3.3 mln tons.
