European Commission plans to extend the liberal regime of agricultural trade with Ukraine
Yesterday in Brussels, at a press conference after the EU Ministerial Council on Agriculture and Fisheries, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister David Clarinval said that the European Commission would soon submit proposals to extend the regime of liberalization of trade in agricultural products with Ukraine.
“The European Commission will soon submit a proposal to extend trade liberalization measures with Ukraine, as EU countries demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine and expect information on the continuation and prospects of long-term trade relations with it,” explained Clarinval, who is responsible for the agricultural sector.
He also noted that some countries have some concerns about the liberal trade regime, but during the EU presidency Belgium will maintain a steady position and give preference to common European solutions.
“We believe that EU member states should not solve this problem on their own. The European Union should preserve the single market and continue to provide Ukraine with important and substantial assistance,” the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
