The European Commission emphasizes the importance of unblocking the border between Ukraine and Poland. European Commissioner for Transport Adina Veljan welcomed the unblocking of the Dorohusk-Yagodyn checkpoint and expects the same to happen with the rest of the currently blocked checkpoints. The European Commission released a statement on the matter.

“I welcome the reopening of the Dorohusk-Yagodyn border crossing for freight transport, which is the most important border crossing between Poland and Ukraine. Its closure since November 6 has had significant consequences for Ukraine, for Poland and for the EU, but most of all for all drivers,” the European Commissioner said.

“I want to remind all parties involved of the damage these protests are causing to the European economy, to supply chains, to other road transport operators, and to Ukraine, a country at war. All border crossing points that are still blocked must be unblocked without delay,” Veljan emphasized.

She reminded that the European Commission had been in contact with the protesters and national authorities in Poland and proposed concrete measures to simplify border crossing procedures between Ukraine and Poland. At the same time, the Commissioner expressed concern that three border crossing points between Poland and Ukraine remain blocked.

“It is vital that the relevant national and local authorities take the necessary measures to ensure the conditions for the transportation of goods across the EU’s external borders. I invite all parties to work together with the European Commission to implement measures and improve the efficiency of border crossing points and ensure the proper implementation of the EU-Ukraine Road Transport Agreement (Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine on the carriage of goods by road. – ),” the European Commission representative emphasized.

She emphasized that the European Commission will continue to support constructive discussion of the situation in order to present verified data on the situation at the border and will look for “pragmatic solutions to practical problems.” According to the European Commissioner, a quick end to the protests on the Polish-Ukrainian border could facilitate the search for such solutions.
