The European Commission has released official proposals that ease the requirements for farmers to meet the environmental conditions of the Green Deal, the agency’s website reports.

These proposals abolish the mandatory requirement to leave part of the arable land under fallow. But those farmers who voluntarily fulfill this condition will be eligible for additional financial support.

The relaxation of the requirement to comply with crop rotation rules will allow farmers to choose between crop rotation or diversification.

The European Commission proposes to exempt farmers with a land bank of up to 10 hectares from control and fines related to the implementation of the Green Deal, which will reduce the administrative burden on small farmers, who account for 65% of the EU’s agricultural beneficiaries.

It is worth reminding that easing the terms of the Green Deal is the main demand of farmers’ protests in many European countries.
