EU to impose 50% duty on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus, – Tusk
The European Union will impose a 50% duty on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus, which will effectively mean an embargo on imports of these products to the EU. Donald Tusk, the head of the Polish government, said this during a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in Warsaw.
“We have made a year’s progress in agriculture. Poland initiated a diplomatic offensive to block imports of Russian and Belarusian grain and agricultural products. And we got a clear result with the introduction of the embargo. We are waiting for the final formal decision, but it seems that we are one step away from the EU imposing a 50% duty on Russian and Belarusian agricultural products, which actually means the realization of our common goal of blocking Russian and Belarusian imports to Europe,” Tusk said.
According to him, today’s meeting showed that the parties can talk openly about problems, and there is no force that could question the friendly relations between Ukraine and Poland, especially in light of the threat from a common enemy.
Tusk noted that Kyiv and Warsaw are looking for and are close to a joint solution to the import and transit of Ukrainian grain so that it does not threaten the Polish market. In addition, the parties agreed on the issue of trucking companies to avoid unfair competition between the parties.
The head of the Polish government also said that Polish trade and industrial missions will visit Ukraine, which will allow Polish companies to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the victorious end of the war.
As reported, during the Ukrainian-Polish consultations in Warsaw on March 28, the parties discussed the issue of weapons for Ukraine, the situation on the border between the two countries, and the development of trade and infrastructure.
The Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Poland signed a joint statement following the Ukrainian-Polish intergovernmental consultations.
