EU significantly reduced corn imports
According to the European Commission, in the period from July 1 to December 3, 2023/24, the EU countries imported just over 7 million tons of corn, which is 43% less than in the previous season (12.8 million tons).
Imports of corn from Ukraine decreased significantly – to 3.79 million tons compared to 5.6 million tons last year, but the share of Ukrainian corn in the total supply increased from 44% to 52%.
Also, the EU significantly reduced corn imports from Brazil to 2.7 million tons, which is 2.3 times less than in the previous period (6.3 million tons). The share of supplies from Brazil decreased from 49% to 37%.
Spain (3.3 million tons), the Netherlands (870 thousand tons) and Italy (768 thousand tons) were the main importers of corn from the EU countries this season.
