EU raises soft wheat export outlook, cuts domestic use
The European Commission increased its forecast for common wheat exports from the European Union plus Britain in 2019/20 to 31.8 million tonnes from 30 million estimated previously.
In supply and demand projections released on its website, the Commission cut its forecast for domestic use of common wheat, or soft wheat, in the EU plus Britain this season to 125.8 million tonnes from 126.1 million.
For the 2020/21 season that starts in July, the Commission reduced its forecast for common wheat production in the EU's 27 members, not including Britain, to 125.8 million tonnes from 126.1 million, and raised its estimate of EU-27 barley output to 56.1 million tonnes from 54.3 million tonnes.
It raised its outlook for EU-27 common wheat exports in 2020/21 to 28 million tonnes from 26.6 million, and reduced its projection of EU-27 common wheat domestic use in 2020/21 to 98.6 million tonnes from 101.2 million previously.
