EU countries agree on €50 billion financial aid package for Ukraine
The European Commission’s proposal to support Ukraine with 50bn euros (£43.2bn) of loans and grants over the next four years is not contested by anybody, an official has said.
European Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn discussed the plans during a news briefing on Thursday.
EU governments have been haggling over a revision of the 27-nation bloc’s long-term budget after the Commission proposed that EU countries provide extra funds to the common budget, most of it for Ukraine.
“The central piece is the support for Ukraine. This is not contested by anybody, even in magnitude,” he said.
