On July 21, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine held a meeting between Minister Mykola Solskyi and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ukraine Ayman Yelgammal, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation with the export of grain due to Russia’s war in Ukraine and discussed possible further steps in solving the problem of supplying Ukrainian wheat to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Mr. Ayman Yelgammal emphasized the importance of trade relations between Ukraine and Egypt.

“Egypt seeks to resume cooperation as soon as possible. The war in Ukraine had a negative impact on food security. The annual consumption of wheat in our country is 12 million tons, of which 6-7 million tons were imported from Ukraine,” the ambassador noted.

Mr. Ayman Yelgammal emphasized that, despite the stimulation of the development of the agricultural sector, this year’s wheat harvest in Egypt is expected at the level of 7.5 million tons – the rest will currently be exported from European countries. However, the Egyptian government hopes that this is a temporary situation, as the restoration of logistics through the ports will provide an opportunity to stabilize the food situation in the country.

The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi assured the Ambassador that Ukraine is primarily interested in unblocking ports and restoring trade relations with Egypt and other countries.
