Due to bad weather, the corn will remain in the fields until the end of winter
In some regions of Ukraine, farmers will not be able to harvest corn until the end of winter due to bad weather conditions.
This was said by the Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council (Vseukrainska Agrarna Rada – VAR) Denis Marchuk during a briefing.
“Driving through Ukraine, we see that corn is standing in the fields. And in many regions it will stand for the whole winter,” he said.
Marchuk added that farmers who do not have time to harvest corn this year before the start of spring sowing will definitely not sow this crop in the spring of 2023.
According to him, corn is a popular product on the international market and a reduction in the area of crops will have negative consequences for Ukrainian agricultural producers.
He also noted that in the current marketing year, Ukrainian farmers planned to collect about 30 million tons of corn.
“This is quite a good indicator, but we will collect much less,” the expert said.
We will remind that as of November 17, 12.3 million tons of corn for grain were collected in Ukraine with a yield of 5.81 tons/ha from 2.1 million hectares (50% of the total area of crops).
The Ukrainian Grain Association predicts that this season’s corn harvest can be expected at the level of 24 million tons (last MY — 37.6 million tons), while exports may amount to about 20 million tons, and transitional stocks — 7.8 million tons.
