Czech Minister of Agriculture Marek Vyborny has asked European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski to consider the situation surrounding the import of agricultural products from Ukraine to the European Union. This is stated in the message of the Czech Ministry.

In general, this applies to grain and poultry meat entering the European market.

“During meetings with farmers, we often talked about increasing the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine. I felt their concern about this situation. That is why today I sent a letter to European Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski with a request to solve this problem,” said Marek Vyborny.

According to him, there is a need to resolve the issues of logistics, transport capacity to third countries, production routing, as well as to guarantee the food safety of imported goods and further strengthen distribution to selected regions.

The ministry noted that when dealing with the unstable situation on European agricultural markets, the Czech Republic prefers to find a pan-European solution rather than a unilateral one.

“In the current situation, I think we need to focus on the longer term. Regarding the current harvest, I have to point out again and again the secondary impact on part of the EU internal market, including the Czech Republic. I see some positive changes in the production structure and price development, but the current indicators are still not favorable in terms of the trade balance of the affected products,” Vyborgny said in the letter.

The Czech ministry notes that the growth of imports, especially for cereals, reaches more than 30% compared to the previous period. The situation is similar in the poultry sector.

“The main reason for the current situation is a significant excess of supply over demand in the EU markets, which was caused by imports of Ukrainian products, especially grain. Therefore, this situation needs to be addressed at the European level, ensuring the functioning of solidarity corridors,” the agency emphasizes.
