Crop rotation will not affect the internal food security of Ukraine

The First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi told on the air of the All-Ukrainian telethon “Yedyni Novyny” (United News) what changes to expect during the spring sowing season.

Taras Vysotskyi named several factors that influenced the crop rotation – the rise in the cost of logistics and mineral fertilizers.

According to him, the percentage of crops under winter rape has already increased, and in the spring it will increase for other major oilseeds – soybeans and sunflower.

According to the First Deputy Minister, changes in the structure of crops will not affect domestic food security. Historically, Ukraine consumes 25-30% of what it grows.

“Winter wheat has already been sown twice as much as needed for domestic consumption. For example, domestic consumption of corn is insignificant – it is 7-8 million tons, which can be harvested from relatively small areas. Therefore, crop rotation can only affect export volumes,” he assured.
