Brazil’s 2023/24 safrinha corn was 91% harvested as of late last week compared to 55% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 8% for the week and it continues to be at a record fast harvest pace. AgRural has been tracking the safrinha harvest progress since 2013 and the prior record was 76% harvested at this date in 2019.

Farmers in the municipality of Chapadao do Sul in northern Mato Grosso do Sul have harvested 90% of their 2023/24 safrinha corn with positive results. According to the director of the trading firm Corretora Dalbosco, Lauri Dalbosco, the average corn yield in the municipality should surpass 130 sacks per hectare (124 bu/ac) even though the last significant rainfall occurred at the end of April.

According to Dalbosco, if a farmer harvested more than 110 to 115 sacks per hectare (105 to 110 bu/ac) they should have made a profit on their 2023/24 safrinha corn.

Farmers in the region are in the process of soil preparation for the 2024/25 soybean crop which they will start planting later in September when the first summer rains occur. They are applying agricultural limestone and taking deliver of their needed fertilizers.
