The sowing of late varieties of corn in Argentina is progressing well, according to a report by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. By December 13, 49.3% of the planned sowing area was planted. According to the forecasts of the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, during the current sowing campaign, the area under corn will be 7.1 mln ha, the same as last year. The share of early corn crops in good and excellent condition is now 42.1%, up 7.5% from a week earlier.

By December 13, 59.5% of the plan was planted, which is 9% more than a year ago. However, the sowing dates lag behind the five-year average. The area under soybeans is expected to increase to 17.3 mln hectares this year, up 6.7% year-on-year. More than 90% of soybean crops are now in satisfactory, good and excellent condition. However, excess water in some areas of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe provinces could have a negative impact on the condition of the crops.

Simultaneously with the sowing of corn and soybeans in Argentina is harvesting wheat. Last week, the harvesting pace slowed down, but is still ahead of average. By December 13, 55.2% of the area under this crop was threshed, which is 1.14% more than a year ago. Continuous rains led to a slowdown in harvesting and germination in the central-eastern and southern growing areas. The yield of wheat already harvested exceeds forecasts: the national average is currently 24.1 c/ha. The harvested amount is 7.4 million tons.
