COCERAL has dispelled the myth that Ukrainian grain of inadequate quality is allegedly imported to the European market
Recently, the European grain association COCERAL made a statement about the supply of Ukrainian grain of proper quality to the EU.
The Association was forced to make this statement due to the spread of false rumors about the alleged import of low-quality grain to the EU market.
According to the UGA, in some neighboring countries that have banned the import of Ukrainian grain, rumors have been spreading that low-quality grain is allegedly being imported from Ukraine, including grain contaminated with mycotoxins or even contaminated with radiation. For example, Hungary has announced that it is strengthening quality control over Ukrainian grain crossing the border.
As noted by COCERAL, its members, who trade in agricultural raw materials intended for the food and feed chains, as well as for technical and energy use, are vigilant in ensuring that when they receive a shipment, whether it originates from EU member states or is imported, it meets the high safety standards set by the EU. As COCERAL emphasizes, its members take full responsibility for meeting these standards.
“All shipments of any origin are inspected, and our members reject any shipments that could potentially have a negative impact on human and animal health. This rigorous process is part of the daily practice of COCERAL traders as part of their risk assessment and management responsibilities,” COCERAL said in a statement.
The UGA would like to emphasize that when exporting grain, it is thoroughly inspected by both government agencies and survey companies.
COCERAL is the European trade association for grains, oilseeds, pulses, olive oil, fats and feed, founded in 1958 after the signing of the Treaty of Rome, which led to the creation of the European Economic Community. It unites producers, traders, importers, exporters and port terminal operators of these agricultural products in the European Union.
The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) is a union of grain producers, processors and major exporters that annually export about 90% of Ukrainian grain products.
The main purpose of the UGA is to promote the formation and development of the national grain market in Ukraine, as well as to create the necessary organizational, economic, legal and social conditions for the development of business structures of the grain market in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Grain Association is the only specialized association from Eastern Europe that is represented in COCERAL without being a representative of a European Union member state.
