China increases imports of Russian grain
In May 2024, China imported 141 thousand tons of grain and flour from Russia (worth $33 million), which is 2.9 times more than in the same month last year.
Barley accounted for more than half of the volume of Russian grains purchased in May – almost 80 thsd tonnes ($19 mln), which is 3.5 times more than last May.
The company imported 28 thousand tons of wheat and meslin (up $7 million), 21 thousand tons of oats (up $4.8 million), 10.5 thousand tons of flour (up $3.4 million), and 1.9 thousand tons of cereals and coarse flour (up $511 thousand).
In total, in the first five months of 2024, China’s imports of Russian grain increased by 4.6 times compared to January-May 2023 – up to 653 thsd tonnes (by $159 mln).
In total, the country imported 377 thsd tonnes of barley, 125 thsd tonnes of wheat and meslin, 103 thsd tonnes of oats, 32 thsd tonnes of flour, and 17 thsd tonnes of cereals and coarse flour.
It should be noted that in total, in 2023, China imported 901 thsd tonnes of Russian grain and flour (worth $234 mln).
