Bulgaria’s wheat harvest up 52% y/y in 2021
Bulgaria has harvested 7.16 million tonnes of wheat this year from a total of 1,204,334 ha put to wheat, marking 52% growth on an annual comparison basis, the agriculture ministry said on Friday.
The average yield amounted to 5.94 tonnes per ha.
Last year, Bulgaria harvested 4.63 million tonnes of wheat, down from 6.16 million tonnes in 2019. The main reason for the drop in wheat harvest was the dry weather during autumn and spring.
Barley production went up 27.2% year-on-year to 698,761 tonnes in 2021, while the total rapeseed output was 376,364 tonnes, 36% higher compared to a year earlier, the agriculture ministry said in a statement.
Bulgaria has produced 934,853 tonnes of sunflower seed and 552,226 tonnes of corn seed so far this year. The country has already collected produce from 47% of the oilseed sunflower-sown area, and 17% of the harvest from the corn-sown area, the agriculture ministry said.
