Weather conditions were determined by high air temperatures, with their average daily values exceeding the biological minimum needed for growth recovery in winter cereals. It became colder towards February 20, but with no critical minimum temperatures.
Moisture supply. A long winter drought was followed by abundant rain that considerably increased moisture content in the 0-50-cm soil layer. Rainfall played a decisive role in overcoming the topsoil moisture deficit faced by winter cereals.
